hair bottleFinding a solution to get rid of dandruff can be tough if you aren’t careful in your research. There are many different products out there that claim to get rid of dandruff but many of these products also contain tons of chemicals and artificial ingredients that may not be good for the hair and will not prevent flaking or itching. People are busy and want to have an effective at home remedy that does not contain chemicals and is quick and easy which makes this dandruff spray solution a perfect fit for any busy person on the go.

In this tutorial, I will show you a simple hair solution that can be used in a spray bottle to treat dandruff, scalp itching, and scalp dryness. I like to use ingredients that serve other purposes so that if you do not currently have it in your pantry, then it will be very versatile to have for other types of treatments or home remedies as well. The great thing about this solution, is that it is extremely simple to make and contains only 3 ingredients although I will list some optional ingredients that can be added to kick it up to another level!

To begin, you will need:

Coconut oil

Tea tree oil

Thats it! After you obtain these ingredients, you will need a spray bottle to put everything in and spray into the hair. First, add about 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of tea tree oil into the spray bottle. The coconut oil may be melted at room temperature but if yours is solid then just heat in the microwave for about 20 seconds. After you have added all of the ingredients, simply fill the spray bottle with water and shake to mix everything together. Done! If you would like to add other essential oils to add more scent and great healing properties to the hair then I would recommend adding:

-rosemary oil

-peppermint oil

-lavender oil

-cedarwood oil

-lemon (juice or oil)

 How to apply the treatment

Once you have mixed everything in the spray bottle, just spray on the hair until it is completely soaked and let sit for at least 15 minute before washing out. It is best to comb the hair after spraying in order to spread the solution throughout but your fingers can be used as well. The treatment is very versatile which is great because it can be left in overnight for an all in one hair conditioning, softening and itch reducing treatment. It is best to use this treatment 3-4 times a week until signs of flaking, itching and redness have gone away then it can be used about 1-2 times per week for best results.

How does it work?

These 3 simple ingredients are excellent at treating dandruff because of the properties that they carry. Coconut oil is very conditioning and moisturizing, helping with the scalp dryness and itching. Apple cider vinegar is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal which makes it perfect to target the fungus that causes dandruff on the scalp. Tea tree oil acts in the same way in that is is ant-fungal and anti-bacterial which will also help in eliminating flaking. In order for this treatment to show its best results, any hair care products with chemicals should also be taken out of your hair care routine. These products can cause drying of the hair and scalp and reduce any efforts that are made by this method to reduce dandruff. The optional ingredients listed are not necessary but they can boost the success of this treatment and also add some other nutrients that the hair and scalp can benefit from.

If you find yourself stuck with trying to resolve a case of hair flaking and itching, this home solution is a great option to begin especially if you have these ingredients lying around your house already. Also, please note that the quantities of ingredients are approximate and can be adjusted as you wish.
